Video Games Today February 17th - July 23rd, 2023
How did video games emerge over half a century ago as an entertainment device?
What kind of new creative platforms are available today?
The exhibition Game Design Today presents a selection of internationally produced video games that feature different approaches to art and design.
Visitors can try out the games, talk to the creators and be inspired by the imagination behind them in order to ignite their own creativity.
′We want to inspire curiosity,′ says Head Curator Katharina Meyer-Stoll. ′The exhibition features works from international productions – ranging from indie, experimental creations such as Proteus or Minecraft; through classics such as Tetris or Super Mario; up to current AAA productions, for example Nintendo′s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.′
Each work is unique and reflects the personal vision and design philosophy behind it, yielding an engrossing interactive experience for spectators.
′Games have gone from a niche product mainly used for entertainment purposes to a mass phenomenon which is used in various fields of human endeavor,’ explains Meyer-Stoll. This is especially apparent when it comes to non-playing video games, i.e. virtual simulations that enable people with no game experience to gain insights into certain situations or topics.
